Research at WAVe – the Trinity Institute

Research is not an isolated area at WAVe, but a core pillar of its international work. It forms the foundation for sound analyses, responsible dialogue formats and long-term, viable societal impulses.

Through its statutes, a binding ethics code and an independent research charter, WAVe operates within a clearly defined scientific framework. These foundations ensure transparency, independence and alignment with internationally recognized research and ethics standards.

WAVe’s research is structured into three closely interconnected areas that together form a coherent framework:

Diplomacy and Societal Dialogue

A central focus lies on exploring diplomacy in an expanded sense: cultural understanding, dialogue capacity between societies, and mechanisms of peaceful cooperation. We examine forms of values-based international collaboration, communication models in conflict contexts, and processes that build trust and stability between states, institutions and civil society.

Science and Interdisciplinary Analysis

WAVe works interdisciplinarily on issues concerning societal, ethical and technological developments. Focus areas include values research, education, media ethics, and the interplay between technological innovation and human responsibility. The aim is to make connections visible, analyze long-term developments, and gain robust insights beyond short-term trends.

Technology, Media and Application

Another area examines technical and media structures as tools of societal impact. We analyze media formats, digital infrastructures and technological applications regarding their ethical, cultural and societal implications. Here, research serves not technology for its own sake, but the question of how technical means can be used responsibly.

WAVe is already recognized as a capable research actor through cooperation with international research institutes, collaboration with globally active scholars, and integration into international networks. Our work operates cross-culturally, comparatively and with high sensitivity to political, societal and ethical contexts.

Building on this foundation, WAVe continuously develops its research activities. With the ‘Trinity – WAVe Institute’, research, education and international cooperation will be structured and bundled even more strongly in the future, without abandoning the openness of the network.

The goal of WAVe’s research is to create scientifically robust insights that provide orientation, enable objectification, and serve as a basis for decision-makers in politics, education, media and civil society.

WAVe understands research as a service to society: calm, responsible, internationally compatible – and committed to the human person.
